"...rockets, rednecks, and engineers, NASA, the Army, the FBI — all operating out of a 30,000-acre facility called Redstone Arsenal, a place where people with GEDs solve problems created by people with PhDs."

Walt is charming, perceptive, and has hated injustice since he watched his father get taken advantage of his whole childhood. Spike is a self-taught machining genius who built a defense industry company out of a diesel truck repair shop. She's been Walt's best friend since they were kids.

Spike is a girl. That surprises most people once. It never surprises them twice.

Walt eventually married Spike's sister. The one who is very much not a tomboy.

"When your best friend is a girl and you're married to her sister, the Southern rumor-mill never turns off."

When the local crop duster pilot, a pillar of the community, gets railroaded in a plane accident investigation, Walt and Spike step in. They have no idea what they're stepping into.

Sometimes a truce is the only win you can get.

Read It Before Anyone Else

No spam. Just book updates and the occasional truth about North Alabama.
